International Day for Persons with Disabilities 2024

I used to think my story wasn’t worth sharing.

That people wouldn’t care about the invisible challenges I face daily, or that talking about narcolepsy and disabilities wouldn’t resonate with “regular” people.

But then I started noticing something—whenever I shared a story, whether it was about my service dog keeping me safe, the challenges of building a business with a disability, or even the embarrassing moments that narcolepsy brings, people didn’t just listen—they leaned in.

They learned.

Today is the United Nations International Day for Persons with Disabilities.

And while it’s a great day for raising awareness, the truth is, we don’t just need awareness.

We need understanding.

So, here’s my hope for you today: Spend 10 minutes reading, watching, or listening to content created by someone with a disability.

Not statistics, not articles written about us—our stories, told by us.

Learn from our lived experiences. See the leadership, resilience, and creativity it takes to navigate a world that isn’t always built for us.

And then, amplify those stories.

Share them with someone who might not have heard them otherwise.

If you don’t know where to start, here’s one story (mine!)

Because a more inclusive, sustainable future starts with understanding—and understanding starts with listening to the stories of those who live it every day.
