The Compsognathus was Small, but was Definitely A Survivor!

The Compsognathus, often referred to as “Compy” for short, lived a fast-paced and dynamic life in the Late Jurassic period, approximately 150 million years ago. Unlike the colossal predators of its time, the Compsognathus was a small, lightweight dinosaur, about the size of a chicken, weighing roughly 6 pounds and measuring around 3 feet in length. This size made it highly agile and quick, essential traits for survival in a world filled with larger predators.

Compsognathus was a carnivore, primarily feeding on small vertebrates like lizards and insects. Fossil evidence even shows that these creatures had sharp, tiny teeth, ideal for snapping up quick meals. In fact, one fossil famously revealed a lizard inside a Compsognathus’s stomach, giving us direct insight into its diet.

Despite its small size, life for the Compsognathus wasn’t easy. It had to constantly stay on the move, using its agility and speed to dodge predators and catch its next meal. Its lightweight frame, long legs, and streamlined body helped it outrun threats, making it a master of survival through speed rather than brute strength.

This dinosaur lived in a lush, warm environment, surrounded by thick vegetation, small streams, and the occasional lurking predator. Its days were likely spent hunting, evading danger, and relying on its acute senses to navigate its prehistoric ecosystem. While it wasn’t the top of the food chain, the Compsognathus proved that size isn’t everything, thriving in a world where every advantage counted.

Transform Your Fears from T-Rex to Compsognathus

Why are we talking about little dinosaurs on a website about a professional speaker & business owner?

We all share one thing: fear.

Napoleon Hill’s classic book Think and Grow Rich lists six core fears humans face, including fear of poverty, criticism, ill-health, loss of love, old age, and death. While Hill’s list from 1937 still resonates today, I believe there are only two main types of fear: Physical Fear and Social Fear.

Physical Fears: like skydiving, snakes, or deep water, involve real danger. These could seriously harm you or your loved ones.

Social Fears, however, are different. They trick your brain into believing something like public speaking, being on live video, or failing is just as dangerous as a real physical threat.

Social fears are what I call “Paper Dinosaurs” imagined dangers that feel as real and scary. As much as a giant dinosaur would be terrifying! But like dinosaurs couldn’t hurt our ancestors, social fears won’t actually harm us. Embarrassment or rejection won’t physically hurt you, and you don’t need to fear the Paper Dinosaur.

(And yes, this is an analogy, I know dinosaurs and humans never lived on earth at the same time. But anyone who has ever seen the bones of a T-Rex can appreciate how scary and real the fear would have been if you ever did meet one).

In this book, I introduce the DREAM formula, which helps you overcome social fears. It’s time to stop letting fear hold you back from achieving your dreams.
