Who needs sleep when you’re living your dream? Not me, apparently!
I’m writing this from a plane en route to Vancouver after an energizing session yesterday at Algonquin College’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship class, thanks to the fabulous invitation from Professor Merriam.
Here are three golden nuggets from the lecture that resonated deeply with the students:
1. You Can Be Self-Taught and Self-Made:
Though I started with a environmental science degree—ready to identify any native fish in Canada—it was my insatiable curiosity, online courses, and strategic mentorships that carved my path in coding and business. Yes, a lot of caffeine was involved too!
2. Invest in Targeted Learning:
Consider paying for a few hours with various professionals to teach you critical skills . For exmaple, my company, Venture Creative Collective, offers private training on business essentials like SEO and web development. Early in your business journey, do this to grasp the basics of bookkeeping—just a few hours can empower you to manage years of finances confidently.
3. Confront Your Paper Dinosaurs:
Anxiety and fear often paint a daunting picture of your capabilities and potential. Remember, most of these fears are mere illusions—paper dinosaurs—that crumble when faced directly. Push forward, tear through those fears, and discover they were never as formidable as they seemed.
To every entrepreneur out there, whether you’re just starting or have been in the game for years: Don’t let limitations define your journey. Every step you take is a part of your unique entrepreneurial story.
This was stage #14 of my goal to speak on 100 stages in 2 years. If you have a stage, group, or event looking for a speaker about resilience, overcoming fear, and achieving your dreams, please reach out!
